Call for Abstracts 

We invite abstract submissions for long oral, rapid fire and conversation starter presentations.

The 2025 Conference theme is: ‘Leadership and collaboration to connect a divided world ’.​

 

Submission of Abstracts

​

We welcome submission of abstracts for presentations relevant to one or more of the conference sub-themes listed on this page. Presentations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' health are particularly welcome.

Please read the information on this page and select the Abstract Submission button below and follow the prompts to submit your abstract.

All abstract presenters must register for the conference and pay the registration fee.

​​​Abstract Requirements
​
  • A maximum of three (3) abstracts may be submitted per presenting author.

  • All abstracts must be in original work and submitted in English and have a 300-word maximum.

  • ​We welcome submission of abstracts for presentations relevant to one or more of the Conference sub-themes. Presentations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health are particularly welcome.

  • Abstracts submitted for presentation will be published exactly as received and should be checked for spelling and grammar prior to submission.

  • It is the submitting author’s responsibility to ensure that the abstract uploaded to the server is the correct version.

  • If there is more than one presenter, all correspondence will be sent to the person whose name and email address is entered with the abstract.

  • We encourage abstract submissions on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health. For these abstracts, first priority will be given to abstracts presented by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, followed by abstracts co-presented with an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Lower priority will be given to abstracts with no Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander authors. For these abstract submissions, up to an additional 300 words will be permitted to outline the Aboriginal Governance structures used to ensure that Indigenous data sovereignty principles were adhered to in the research or program development and that the processes were culturally appropriate.  â€‹

We invite submissions that explore new approaches, facilitate discussion, and showcase research and innovation on the following:

  • Advancing global health and wellness: a holistic, public health approach

  • Climate change and health, sustainability and the natural/built environments

  • Creating Healthy Cities: cross-sector collaboration and unification for healthy populations

  • Cultural competence in healthcare and public health: the role of policies in ensuring cultural sensitivity and competence

  • Epidemiology: bridging gaps and breaking barriers

  • Generating policy change through cross-sectoral and transdisciplinary research: and why social scientists are needed on the team

  • Health communication: building trust and dispelling misinformation

  • Health in the world of AI - utilisation and integration in public health

  • Honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in public health

  • One Health national strategy and joint plan of action - integrating the environment and the paradigm shift to primary prevention

  • Peace, justice and international health institutions

  • Promoting 'diversity, equity and inclusion' in societies

  • Public health workforce development

  • Social determinants of health: past-present-future in public health practices

  • The wellbeing economy: working together for health, prosperity and sustainable progress

Conference Objectives

​

The conference objectives are to:​​

  • Create a safe environment for knowledge sharing, collaboration and relationship building

  • Promote and celebrate public health

  • To create an understanding of the past, present and future public health issues

  • Create an inclusive and culturally safe environment with opportunities to discuss issues of diversity, disability and accessibility, and provide an equal opportunity to be part of the program and public health discussion

  • Deliver latest research, program implementations and workforce developments

  • Showcase new developments in advocacy in public health through keynote speakers

  • Showcase leadership in public health from established and emerging leaders

  • Highlight the activities of the PHAA, including state and territory branches and special interest groups, and encourage delegates to work together to achieve better health outcomes for Australians​

Target Audience

​​

The conference will aim to facilitate conversations on improving effectiveness and efficiencies of public health through knowledge sharing and relationship building. The program must consider the needs and interests of the public health audience to ensure attraction and participation to the conference.

​

The target audience for the conference is people who work for educational institutions, health agencies, associations, organisations, clinical health centres and employed as health administration and promotion officers, educators, planners, researchers, scientists, nurses and including a wide range of allied health professionals working locally, regionally, nationally and globally. Students are also encouraged to participate and submit to present their work at the conference.

Presentation Types (Face-to-face & Pre-recorded options available)
​

Long Oral Presentations

Presenters have a total of 10 minutes to present. 

 

Rapid Fire Presentations (Short Oral)

Presenters have a total of 6 minutes’ presentation time.

Conversation Starter Presentations

Presenters have a total of 3 minutes presentation time. ​

Abstract review, selection and notification

​

  • All abstracts are submitted for peer-review. 

  • Every effort is made to accept abstracts for the presentation type submitted. However, due to limited space a different abstract type may be offered than what was submitted.

  • The contact person for each abstract will be notified of the outcome of their abstract submission via email in the second-half of June.

​

Please note, concurrent sessions will only be available to delegates at the venue.
